The Joker and The Riddler Could Have Appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Right now, it's pretty much known that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will feature two villains along with the introduction of the members of the Justice League. Apparently though, there were supposed to be four villains in the upcoming film.

According to Collider, Director Zack Snyder admitted during a recent press event for Batman v Superman that he originally intended to include The Joker and The Riddler in the DC film.

He revealed:

We talked about the possibility of putting them in. [Screenwriter] Chris Terrio and I talked about it a lot and felt that their mythological presence is felt in the movie, and that's cool, but I didn't want to get my eye too far off the ball because I needed to spend the time, frankly, with Batman and Superman to understand the conflict.

Snyder didn't reveal the details of The Joker and The Riddler's supposed appearances, but it's safe to say that the two wouldn't be making things any easier for Batman and Superman. But just because the two is not appearing in the upcoming Batman v Superman, it doesn't mean there isn't a chance of them facing off with either Batman or Superman in future DC films.

Cinema Blend noted that "a Joker-ized Robin uniform" has been confirmed as appearing in the Batcave. Meanwhile, the question mark symbol of The Riddle will also appear in a scene involving a vandalized Gotham City wall. It's fairly obvious that while Snyder cut out the villains from the movie, the will likely appear in the future, which in my opinion is better.

The upcoming Batman v Superman already has too many characters involved that the film may veer too far from the actual struggle of the two iconic superheroes battling each other out. In addition, a future appearance from The Joker and The Riddler would potentially be more intense and sinister given that Batman and Superman are already allies. A team-up such as the Justice League would raise bigger challenges and much more sinister villains.

At least we'll get to see Jared Leto's The Joker in Suicide Squad come August. As for The Riddler's future movie appearance, we have yet to find that out.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on Friday, March 25.
