The Lovecraftian Shadow Monster has been featured prominently in the press material for Stranger Things Season 2, but according to a new theory explained by The Nerdist, Will Byers is the true antagonist of Hawkins, Indiana. The way Will was looking at the monster in the trailer suggests that he's somehow linked to the Upside Down, acting as bait to lure other people into the monster's reach. The end of Season 2 seems to hint that they story is going in that direction, and it just makes sense since Will had an extended stay in the Upside Down.
