The Defenders’ Stories Will Be Tied Together By One Factor

Marvel has banded together some unlikely heroes and allies—the Avengers didn't exactly start off as a well-oiled machine. But The Defenders, coming to Netflix, has some even more odd allies.

From the trailers alone, it's easy to see that fighting together and fighting each other may actually be synonymous to the four heroes, namely Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), and Danny Rand (Finn Jones).

TV Guide got Colter in an interview to ask just what will be that one thing that will put the group—or at least their stories—together when they assemble as The Defenders:

"The villains that we're dealing with are a combination of several entities, and they all have something to do with our separate stories that have played out in each of our own individual series. So this has been going on for a while. It wasn't obvious in each individual series, but in this series, you'll find out that the things that happened to all of us basically were all because of one entity and that's what's gonna kind of tie things together and then we'll see that, we'll understand that, and before you know it, eventually we'll fight together or not."

This sounds like the origin story of the group at its finest. And it may take a lot for the group to successfully face off against the villain Alexandra, portrayed by Sigourney Weaver.

But funnily enough it seems that there's one thing they wouldn't be able to defeat—their differences. Colter reiterated that they won't be settling differences anytime soon. Though that doesn't necessarily mean that they can't have a good fight against evil.

The Defenders will arrive on Netflix come Aug. 18.
