The Batman: Robert Pattinson Reveals How Willem Dafoe Convinced Him to Take on Iconic DC Role

At this point, people have finally accepted the fact that Robert Pattinson is the new Caped Crusader in The Batman. But how exactly did the Twilight actor end up taking the role? Interestingly, Pattinson admitted that it had a lot to do with what his Lighthouse co-star Willem Dafoe said to him.

Pattinson recently spoke to Total Film where he confessed that he approached Dafoe before taking the role. According to Pattinson, he felt that the Spider-Man star was the best person to talk to considering he has already played a comic book character in a major film.

"Actually, I did talk to him about the Green Goblin, because he really, really wanted to do it. He said he was auditioning for it, and really, really went after it," Pattinson said of Dafoe. "And I was like: it's interesting – I think a lot of actors who've done loads of stuff, it's like, they come to you."

Interestingly, Pattinson also shared how Dafoe was aware that some people were not fans of his version of the Green Goblin. Nevertheless, Dafoe persisted and played the character in the way he wanted.

"He was saying, ‘People didn't really understand why I liked that character so much. It's just a great, great character.' It's kind of how I feel about Batman," Pattinson said.

We're glad to know that both Pattinson and Dafoe are very passionate about playing their respective comic book characters. It certainly makes us want to see Pattinson in action really soon.

The Batman is scheduled for release on June 25, 2021.
