Stranger Things Cast Talk About A “More Horror Oriented” Second Season

Stranger Things was a massive success when it released its first season on Netflix last year. Mixing in horror, mystery and adventure together with its nostalgic ode-to-the-eighties tone, the series gained a lot of critical reviews and awards for its acting, writing and production.

A lot of excitement has been building up for the second season of the series which has been teased to be a whole lot darker and even more intense than the first. Emmy Magazine featured the Stranger Things kids in the cover of their newest issue this month, and in the cover article the young cast reveals a bit more about the upcoming season.

According to Gaten Matarazzo, the young star who plays the toothless Dustin, the group's dynamic will have changed in the new season. Though Noah Schnapp's Will Byers has returned from the upside down, there's no doubt that the alternate dimension has had a profound effect on the young boy.

"The great thing about this season is you get to see insights into each character on their own. You're going to see a lot more into the lives of how the characters are coping with what's been going on.

"I think they're all very emotionally scarred. They feel alone because their best friend [Will] is back and he's not acting like their best friend anymore. He's changed."

The Upside Down isn't done with the sleepy town of Hawkins, Atlanta just yet – not when Will's vomiting slugs into the sink. Finn Wolfhard who plays Mike also adds that the second season of Stranger Things would have even darker elements in it.

"There are going to be some challenges that the characters face that are real. That are disturbing. I think this season will be a lot more dark. A lot more horror oriented. I think people are going to like it more than the first season."

We've seen giant spiders and giant red gashes between timelines in the trailer for the second season of Stranger Things, so we're pretty sure that the series will feature darker elements when it returns. After all, in a space as vast as the upside down, it's impossible to believe that the demogorgon would be the only creature there is.

Stranger Things season 1 can be streamed on Netflix. Season 2 comes wheeling in during Halloween this year.
