Steven Spielberg: The Tintin Sequel is Not Dead; Will Probably Come Out in 3 Years

It's been almost a decade since the release of Steve Spielberg's animated The Adventures of Tintin movie, and a lot of people have thought that the franchise is dead in the water. Apparently, Spielberg confirms that the sequel is still in the works, and we could expect it in the next three years.

Talking to Premiere, Spielberg comments:

"Peter Jackson has to do the second part. Normally, if all goes well, he will soon start working on the script. As it takes two years of animation work on the film, for you, I would not expect to see it for about three years. But Peter will stick to it. Tintin is not dead!"

With Spielberg directing, Peter Jackson producing, and a script from Sherlock's Steven Moffat and Edgar Wright, the Tintin movie had a lot of great things going for it; but the movie ended up underperforming when it came out, and it seemed that we weren't going to be getting a sequel despite the teaser in the end.

As per IMDb, the sequel is actually titled The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun, and it will be based on a comic where Tintin and Haddock head over to South America. With Jackson's work on Mortal Engines seemingly finished, he can then get to work on this Tintin sequel.

No release date has been announced for The Adventures of Tintin II, but hopefully the film will come out 2021.
