Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’s Ending Scene Makes Its Way Online

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is getting its home release this month, and it looks like Lucasfilm is trying its best to add hype to the film's digital release by dropping clips taken from Episode IX online.

One of the most recently released clips from the movie is the final moment in The Rise of Skywalker where Rey (Daisy Ridley) renounces her Palpatine heritage by calling herself "Rey Skywalker." According to a report by Digital Spy, the clip has finally made its way online, though we can't really seem to get a copy of the scene from sites like YouTube. The scene plays out in The Rise of Skywalker's home release trailer though, so you can check it out in the video above.

Though this particular scene was supposed to be a dramatic and cathartic moment for fans, many felt divided by the Rey's declaration that she was a Skywalker and not a Palpatine. Some felt the moment was uplifting for Rey, teaching fans that everyone gets to decide what path they take on. Others felt that it was a tad bit corny.

Whatever the case, it seems like the line was decided early on during the making of the movie. According to screenwriter Chris Terrio, J.J. Abrams and his team discovered that they really wanted Rey to name herself a Skywalker.

"It was shortly after we had decided that we wanted to really embrace this idea that Rey had come from the darkest lineage imaginable, but in the course of the movie, a Palpatine becomes a Skywalker," Terrio explained.

What do you think of Rey calling herself a Skywalker? Did you like the ending moment of the film? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set for release on Digital HD on March 17 and on DVD, Blu-Ray, and 4K Ultra HD on March 31.
