Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Reveals First Look at Maz Kanata's Return

We have already seen most of the important characters that will be joining the fight in the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailers. However, we have yet to get an official look at Maz Kanata, who only had a minor role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Luckily, an official photo of Lupita Nyong'o's character has just been unveiled.

The image was revealed at the Rise of Skywalker's global press conference (via Twitter). Check it out below.

We're loving how realistic Maz looks although we all know she's completely CGI. In addition to that, there's a dramatic look at Kylo Ren as well as Richard E. Grant's character Allegiant General Pryde. Overall, these images are getting us excited for Episode IX.

Maz was first introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and she was responsible for giving Rey the lightsaber that once belonged to Anakin and Luke Skywalker. However, she only had a small (yet important) role in The Last Jedi. Hopefully, we'll get to see Maz in action later this year.

The synopsis for The Rise of Skywalker reads as follows:

"A year after the events of The Last Jedi, the remnants of the Resistance face the First Order once again—while reckoning with the past and their own inner turmoil. Meanwhile, the ancient conflict between the Jedi and the Sith reaches its climax, bringing the Skywalker saga to a definitive end."

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.
