We're already nearing the release of J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. And while there's roughly two months away from the premiere, lots of reports, leaks, and theories and going out regarding the movie. And adding to that list, there's a new rumor that fans could be surprised about.

According to Star Wars Topps artist and Cinelinx Editor-In-Chief Jordan Maison, The Rise of Skywalker was said to be originally tested for multiple endings. Fortunately, there were no leaks about the plotline revealed. However, Maison claims that there were up to eight alternate endings tested for Episode IX.

Even though there were a handful of alternate endings, he says the stories weren't significantly different from one another. "More than likely just different approaches to the same type of scene to get the right emotional impact," Maison said.

Maison also claims the studio is still trying out some endings so the rumored runtime for TROS, which is, 2 hours and 35 minutes, could still change and would either be longer or shorter by "mere minutes." You can check out his tweets below.

LRM says that these screen tests are always done for most films in order to see how different groups of people would react to different endings. The studio would then use these feedback accordingly and make some adjustments and tweaks that determines the final output of the movie.

In any case, you could find out what ending was decided on when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres on December 20, 2019.
