Star Wars: The Last Jedi Was Leggier At The Box Office Than Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War might have made a billion more than Star Wars: The Last Jedi at the box office with its $2.044 billion haul, but it turns out the installment in Marvel's two-part Avengers movie was a whole lot less leggy than Lucasfilm's The Force Awakens sequel.

According to Forbes, while Infinity War had a lot of great reviews and a lot of great energy from word-of-mouth reviews, the film was less leggy than The Last Jedi. Not only did the film have the shortest legs for a movie with a $200m+ opening weekend, but it's weekend-to-final multiplier of 2.61 ended up being smaller than Jurassic World, Black Panther, The Force Awakens, and of course The Last Jedi.

While the film ultimately reached the $2 billion mark at the box office, it wasn't as leggy as compared to The Last Jedi. Sure the Star Wars sequel trilogy installment might have seen a 69% drop during its second weekend, but the film still made it up to $620 million during that time period – a sign which the publication says that it could "arguably mean that the general audience liked the movie."

During its first few days in cinemas, The Last Jedi did pretty well for itself, earning great reviews from fans and critics. The narrative, however, changed after fans who disliked the movie started rigging user review scores online to create the impression that what critics were saying were very different from what actual Star Wars fans were feeling. Surprisingly, Forbes still says that "it stands to reason that most folks thought Last Jedi was somewhere between "Great!" and "It's fine, I guess" – an analysis which follows through with older surveys that reveal that most audiences actually enjoyed the film.

Star Wars' next entry, Star Wars: Episode IX releases on December 20, 2019. Meanwhile, Avengers 4 hits cinemas on May 3, 2019.
