Star Wars The Last Jedi: Rian Johnson Talks Excessive Use Of Red In The Movie

There's a lot of visually striking details in The Last Jedi trailer, but you'll also notice a lot of color red. Whether it's the movie's poster or the crystals on planet Crait, Rian Johnson seems to be using the color a lot for the film.

Talking to Star Wars.com, Johnson reveals his choice to have red be the theme for the movie. He explains:

"Snoke's throne room, which is the other big red environment, was something I had that I was fixated on. The idea of this theatrical space. Snoke uses theatricality, and so it's this very striking, graphic, bold space, and red felt right to me for that space, as well. It's probably a combination of me just liking bold, graphic design like that, and the natural development of it. Red just felt right for this middle chapter. It felt kind of dangerous."

If Star Wars is known for anything, it's that it always contains scenes that are visually striking. Everyone remembers the lumbering AT-ATs on Hoth as well as the assault of the X-Wings on the Death Star; even the prequels admittedly made lightsaber dueling a worldwide cult.

Judging by the early reactions, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is going to be something to remember, and personally I'm hoping it doesn't follow the steps of Force Awakens and become another rehash of Empire Strikes Back. Bring something new to the franchise, Johnson!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters Dec. 15.
