Star Wars The Last Jedi: John Boyega On Why Director Rian Johnson Is So Great

Rian Johnson is the director behind one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and everyone is curious about what exactly he has in store for us. One of the movie's lead stars, John Boyega, has expressed his excitement for the movie and hypes up what makes Johnson such a good fit for the director's chair.

Taking to Metro, Boyega explains:

"The reason why I am very excited for this film is Rian Johnson… The guy has found a way of respecting the old, embracing what was done with JJ, expanding it with new ideas … Star Wars is still expanding. Especially with Rian's mind and we've seen it with Looper the things that have come from his brain."

With Lucasfilm firing three directors this year alone, Rian Johnson seems to be getting attention for being one of the few directors who has managed to keep his job at Lucasfilm. With creative differences being the main reason for all of the director firings, it seems that Johnson was able to deliver what Lucasfilm has expected of him.

Going back to Boyega, he also hypes up the visual elements of The Last Jedi and Johnson's involvement with them. He continues:

"To have those two elements together in one film, even visually is ridiculous… You saw those speeders going across the desert plains with the red? That's Rian. Don't know what he's smoking, but it seems to be working."

After J.J. Abrams had successfully rebooted Star Wars back in 2015, a lot of people are excited to see the continuing adventures of Rey and Finn in the sequel. Let's not forget everyone is also eager to see the return of original hero Luke Skywalker.

Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi comes out Dec. 15.
