Star Wars: The Last Jedi Is Franchise’s First 4K Home Video Release

Star Wars: The Last Jedi might have just made its big premiere a couple of months ago, but it seems like Lucasfilm already has a home release date.

The studio released a new trailer for The Last Jedi's home release yesterday, announcing the different bonus content that fans would get in the film's DVD including scene break downs, deleted scenes and audio commentary by the film's director Rian Johnson.

But that's not all. The film will also be releasing on 4K ultra HD, a format which hasn't been used in any of the home releases of the Star Wars franchise.

According to Polygon, 4K Blu-Ray Disc movies arrived early back in 2016, however, Disney was slow in making use of the format. None of the films in the original trilogy and none of the films in the prequel trilogys are available in 4k. Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story aren't available in the format either.

The Mickey Mouse House only took to the 4K Blu-Ray with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in August 2017. That's a year after the format was actually released. Hopefully this better format will give Star Wars fans the home experience they deserve.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits digital on March 13 and then Blu-Ray and DVD on March 27.
