Star Wars: The Last Jedi Expected To Haul In $200 Million During Its Opening Weekend

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated films of the year and it looks like analysts expecting the sequel trilogy installment to be one of Lucasfilm's biggest hit.

Tracking for The Force Awakens sequel has just made it online, and according to a report by Variety the film's heading for a massive launch that would scale at around $200 million during its opening weekend from December 15 to 17 in North America. Analysts expect the film to be this year's biggest blockbuster hit, surpassing Beauty and the Beast's $ 174.8 million haul at the domestic box office during its opening weekend back in March.

While a projected opening of $200 million sounds very much like a feat in itself, the strong numbers don't come as a surprise. The revival of the Star Wars franchise has had overwhelming success the past few years – when Lucasfilm returned with The Force Awakens back in 2015 the film hauled a stunning $248 million during its opening weekend. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story also had a pretty solid start, raking in $155.1 million.

With so much anticipation and excitement building up for The Last Jedi, we're hoping to see the film either reach or surpass The Force Awakens' numbers.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits cinemas December 15, 2017.
