Patty Jenkins recently addressed the reason behind the massive delay of the long-gestated Star Wars: Rogue Squadron project.

In late 2020, Lucasfilm announced that the Wonder Woman director is working on a new Star Wars movie that will center on a new generation of starfighter pilots in the galaxy far, far away.

However, since then, the project has not moved forward as it remained stuck in development. There were rumors that Lucasfilm has pulled the plug, but it was disputed by reports.

Patty Jenkins Cites Writers' Strike as the Reason for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Delay

In an interview, Jenkins provided an update on the development of Rogue Squadron following its massive delay.

She explained that last year's writers' strike was the reason behind the movie's long delay. She also assured that she is now committed to the project following the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3.

"When I left Star Wars to do Wonder Woman 3, and I started working on that, we talked about, 'Well, maybe I'll come back to Star Wars after Wonder Woman 3, so we started a deal for that to happen," the director recalled.

"When Wonder Woman 3 then went away, Lucasfilm and I were like, 'Oh, we've got to finish this deal.' We finished the deal right as the strike was beginning, so I now owe a draft of Star Wars. So we will see what happens there. Who knows?"

Jenkins also acknowledged that Lucasfilm is currently juggling several Star Wars movie projects as they are ramping up their theatrical slate.

"They have a hard job in front of them of, 'What's the first movie they're going to do?' They have other directors who have been working, but I am now back on doing Rogue Squadron. We'll see what happens. We need to get it to where we're both super happy with it," she said.

While it remains to be seen whether the movie will move forward to production, at the very least, we have a recent confirmation that the project is still in the works despite the delay.

For now, let's wait and see for any news regarding the project as we might hear more updates on its development soon.
