Star Wars’ John Boyega Reveals Truth Behind Dark Side Rey In Episode IX

Star Wars fans went crazy when Lucasfilm released its brand new trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker during Disney's D23 Expo last month. Sure, the new video was mostly made up of footage from all the other different entries in the Skywalker saga, but it did feature some pretty great clips from Episode IX. That includes a scene of sequel trilogy heroine Rey (Daisy Ridley) dressed as a Sith with her dark robes and her red swiss knife lightsaber.

Would we really get to see Rey turn to the Dark Side? Would she be lured into the Dark by Palpatine?

The Star Wars Show just recently released a new video showcasing great content from D23. The hosts of the Star Wars YouTube channel got to speak with the cast and crew of Episode IX at the expo, and they couldn't help but ask Ridley about Dark Side Rey.

The British actress was pretty careful not to give anything away though, saying very little aside from "So did I," when she was told the scene where Rey turns to the Dark Side was nothing but "absolutely amazing."

Her co-star, John Boyega, was a bit more cooperative though.

"I think we don't need to do any theories about it," the Finn actor told the Star Wars channel. "It's just a wardrobe change...She liked it."

Boyega's comments seem to reflect what Lucasfilm wrote in the description of the new trailer in Star Wars' website. According to the description, what fans saw in the trailer was a "vision of Rey," something which implies that Dark Side Rey was simply the product of a Force Vision or a dream. The description has been since edited though.

Of course, Lucasfilm could simply be baiting fans. We'll have to wait and see.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits cinemas on December 20, 2019.
