Star Wars Fan Creates Video Visualizing Alternate Opening For The Force Awakens

Jakku might be the site of the final battle between the Empire and the New Republic in official Star Wars canon, but J. J. Abrams originally had a different vision for the desolate dessert planet.

The Force Awakens director actually toyed around with the idea of using Jakku as a cosmic junkyard and now it seems like one Star Wars fan has created an alternate opening sequence for the film adapting Abram’s original storyboards.

Taking to YouTube, Tim Gray shared a video attempting to capture what The Force Awakens opening sequence would have looked like if Abrams had decided to turn Jakku into a busy cosmic junkyard. Though the effects are clearly amateurish, the video is fascinating to look at, and it’s easy imagining how cinematic it would be to see run-down Imperial ships falling down to Jakku.

Check the video out down here:

Seeing the Republic treat Jakku as a dumpsite might seem a bit inhumane, but we presume that in Abram’s original conception of  the planet, he imagined that Jakku would be sparsely inhabited. It would make sense that the New Republic would need a dumping ground too – wreckage from the space battles the New Republic had with the Empire would be a major hazard for other ships in space, and so it’d be much better to leave it in Jakku.

What do you think of the video though? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
