Star Wars Episode VIII May See an Intergalactic Benicio Del Toro Villain

Benicio De Toro has showcased his mystical side as a potential villain as The Collector in the Marvel Universe's Guardians of the Galaxy.

Fans may also see him play a villainous role, this time in another franchise's movie, Star Wars Episode VIII. According to Starwarsnet.com, Del Toro has already been pegged as a villain for the movie as early as mid-July.

And while there were no confirmations from Disney, Lucasfilm or Del Toro himself right after new reports from the actor himself have suggested that it is more or less a sure thing. It does not help that the script and everything about the next Star Wars movie seems to be under tight wraps.

"It looks like it's gonna happen so I'm very excited. I can't talk too much about it. The script is hard to get. They told me they'd cut my finger if I talk about it."

For the most part, reports from earlier had seen conflicting statements. Of course, some of these may be damage control after Del Toro had suggested that his role will be a villain. But a new report from Italian publication Grazia.it now seems to be a better confirmation than before.

Del Toro hinted that this may be the first time that he is playing an intergalactic villain. Perhaps it is in the translation, since the source had stated that Del Toro quickly added "kidding aside" in reference to the villain role.

Considering that there is still a good year and some months before the expected Dec. 15, 2017 theatrical launch of Star Wars Episode VIII, there will probably some more confirmations—or coy teasers, from the way things are going—on Del Toro's role.

Star Wars Episode VIII will be directed by Rian Johnson. It will star Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Kelly Marie Tran.
