Star Wars: Episode IX Merchandise Reveals BB-8 Injury

It looks like BB-8 is going to go on a pretty rough adventure in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Merchandise for The Rise of Skywalker has begun hitting shelves ahead of Triple Force Friday, and a new bobble-head Funko Pop figure of BB-8 shows a bit of damage on the adorable ball droid.

The picture of The Rise of Skywalker BB-8 Funko Pop made its way on Reddit today thanks to a post by Star Wars fan KoopalingArmy, and in it, we get to see BB-8 missing one of his orange panels at the side. This means that the droid might get damaged at some point in the film – that or the droid might have gotten damaged in an adventure between Episode IX and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Right now there's been very little information revealed about The Rise of Skywalker, so we can't really be sure how and when BB-8 loses his panel in the film. Seeing how this damaged portion of BB-8 has been included in merchandise for Triple Force Friday, this new reveal doesn't seem to be that big of a deal to Lucasfilm. After all, the studio is very careful about keeping the secrets of its upcoming movies under wraps. Lucasfilm probably won't leave any sort of clue about BB-8's battle-worn look in the marketing campaign for The Rise of Skywalker, though we do hope to get a look of the droid in the first full trailer for the movie.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
