Star Wars Episode IX Concept Art Hints At How The Emperor Makes His Return

The Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker news front might have been a little quiet the past few weeks with Lucasfilm trying its best to avoid spoilers from leaking out to the public, but somehow it seems like Star Wars concept art just might provide fans with a major clue about what's to come.

A Star Wars fan just recently shared a picture from The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Reddit showing the Millennium Falcon going on underwater adventures in Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away. While it might seem a bit unlikely to see the Millennium Falcon going underwater knowing that the ship doesn't have the capacity to function in water, the concept art hints at the Millenium Falcon under the ocean hovering right over the Emperor's Tower and the remains of the second Death Star.

The scene was never used in The Force Awakens or in The Last Jedi – but could it have some space in The Rise of Skywalker? The teaser trailer for Episode IX did show these same remains sitting right across a body of water. Could J.J. Abrams be planning an underwater Millennium Falcon ride for Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe ( Oscar Isaac) and Chewie ( Joonas Saotamo)? Could the Emperor's remains were found in the remains of the Death Star under water?

It wouldn't be a surprise to see Abrams explore unused concepts from The Force Awakens in his second Star Wars film – after all, the filmmaker was in charge of Episode VII in the first place.

Let's wait and see.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
