Star Wars Lead Daisy Ridley has a Problem with Rey Being Labelled a 'Strong Girl'

Star Wars fans might have fallen in love with Rey (Daisy Ridley) ever since she first appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but some still find fault with the character. Some aren't really pleased by how overpowered the character is despite the lack of training, calling her a Mary Sue. Some call Rey a "strong woman" created to push the feminist agenda.

Ridley, however, cringes at the simple "strong girl" description that's often applied to her character.

The Star Wars sequel trilogy star just recently went on an interview with GQ to talk about The Rise of Skywalker and the work that she's done for the franchise. The discussion touched upon Rey as a "strong woman," a label that Ridley finds very lacking.

"There is an interesting conversation that's happening with this use of ‘strong'," Ridley told the entertainment news outlet, "It's not because Rey is strong that she's amazing. It's all the complexities of a human. It's because she is a well-drawn person who is struggling with things and you're with her."

Ridley has been through a lot as a Star Wars actress. Not only has The Rise of Skywalker star had to deal with the challenges of filming a Star Wars movie, but she's also had to deal with the fanbase as well. Star Wars fans can be passionate, and sometimes things can get out of hand. Sure, we all have different opinions about the new Star Wars movies, but some fans can become rabid, going out of their way to attack the cast and crew of the new trilogy.

Let's hope that things change as the Star Wars franchise moves forward.
