Last weekend, images of Rey from EA Dice's highly anticipated action shooter videogame Star Wars Battlefront II made its way online, showing off the sequel trilogy's heroine wielding two different lightsabers in the game. This prompted some to speculate that Daisy Ridley's character might actually build her own lightsaber in the upcoming Star Wars film installment, The Last Jedi.
However, it seems like a new theory has surfaced, this time suggesting that the lightsabers might actually hint at Rey's parentage.
With the two leaked images showing off a customizable screen with Rey carrying around two different sabers : Anakin Skywalker's old lightsaber that she acquired in The Force Awakens and then a saber oddly similar to Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Some have taken this as a sign that Rey might actually be related to Kenobi – after all, the Star Wars saga does have a habit of seeing a lightsaber pass down from one generation to another.
Theories that Rey might have some Kenobi blood in her sprouted during the release of The Force Awakens after fans noticed that the voices of Kenobi stars Alec Guiness and Ewan McGregor were heard during one of the film's scenes where Rey found herself seeing a vision after touching Luke's lightsaber.
Could Rey really be related to Obi-Wan? We'll have to wait till we find out.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits cinemas on December 15.
