Spider-Man Tom Holland Will Play Young Nathan Drake In Uncharted Movie

Well, this is weird. After years in development hell, Sony has finally started to move forward with the movie adaptation of Naughty Dog's Uncharted franchise with Shawn Levy in the helm, and now, they've cast Spider-Man actor Tom Holland to star as Nathan Drake. Some may say that the actor is too young for the part, but the script is said to be undergoing a "repurposing" to feature a younger Drake.

Fans of Uncharted will remember that the story starts out with Nathan Drake as a full-grown adult, but this movie is said to be borrowing off Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, and how Drake was taken by Sully under his wing. Joe Carnahan was initially working on the script, but with the casting of Holland, Sony may hire someone else to do a rewrite.

The decision may sound a bit iffy, but I'm only putting my faith in Shawn Levy. If Levy thinks that casting Holland was the best choice for this movie, then by all means, go ahead. If casting Holland was a move by Sony to pull in audiences because of his Spider-Man fame, then we may be looking at a rushed script and another terrible video game movie. Assassin's Creed didn't do so well, so why should Uncharted be any different?

In all honesty, I don't want this movie to suck, but if studios will insist on making decisions that prioritize profit over story, then fans may have to settle in for another disappointment.

The Uncharted movie still has no official release date.
