Spider-Man: Far From Home Should Have Made Black Widow's Death More Important

Spider-Man: Far From Home did a lot of things right; it acted as an excellent epilogue to Avengers: Endgame, made it clear that Iron Man's legacy will never be forgotten, and had Peter inherit the good and bad from Iron Man's life. However, one thing it could have done better was giving more love to the late Natasha Romanov, aka Black Widow.

In the start of Spider-Man: Far From Home, we see a eulogy for Iron Man, Black Widow, and Captain America (since the world thinks he's dead) made by the teenagers in Peter's high school. It's a cute and funny scene but is pretty depressing when you consider that this is the only time Nat gets mentioned in the film.

Now, you can argue that Peter saw Tony as a father figure and it made sense for the film to focus so much on his sadness over Stark's death. However, it wouldn't have killed anyone to have Fury mention that she was one of the greats and is gone now.

After Avengers: Endgame came out, Christopher Markus argued that Tony Stark was a beloved public figure and it was only natural to give him a big funeral, while Natasha was a spy for most of her life with the world not knowing much about her, hence not getting a funeral. ScreenRant argues that logic is flawed since Natasha became the public face of The Avengers, working alongside Captain Marvel, Okoye, and so much more during the five-year time skip before Ant-Man saved the world.

We're not going to accuse Marvel of any rampant sexism or anything like that but it feels like they forgot how important Nat was to the overall MCU and they're the ones who wrote her. Hell, she's getting a prequel movie soon, which will probably be the best sendoff her character can get at this point. It's not the worst fate in the world but she definitely deserves more love so here is hoping her movie is great.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is now showing in theaters and is actually pretty great, minus the lack of Black Widow mentions.
