Solo: A Star Wars Story Talks About The Possibility Of Lando Being Pansexual

Lando Calrissian might be one of the smoothest and best-dressed charcters in Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away, but that doesn't mean that fans have gotten the smuggler's sexuality figured.

Sure Lando might have tried to hit on Princess Leia in Star Wars: Epsisode V– Empire Strikes Back, but the character's charm is so intense, some have wondered whether the character was into the same gender too.

Speaking in an interview with The Huffington Post to help promote Solo: A Star Wars Story, screenwriter Jonathan Kasdan was asked whether Lando was actually pansexual. The Star Wars writer's answer? Yes.

"I would say yes," Kasdan told the publication. "There's a fluidity to Donald [Glover] and Billy Dee's [portrayal of Lando's] sexuality."

Though Lando might have been one of the most debonair characters in the franchise, the character didn't get that much screentime in the original Star Wars trilogy. Darth Vader interrupted Lando's little flirty scene with Leia in Empire Strikes Back and Lando didn't get too many scenes in the Return of the Jedi.

Because of this, Kasdan believes that it isn't impossible that Lando might have had actually had room in his heart to love anyone who would have caught his interest.

"I mean, I would have loved to have gotten a more explicitly LGBT character into this movie," Kasdan noted. "I think it's time, certainly, for that, and I love the fluidity ― sort of the spectrum of sexuality that Donald appeals to and that droids are a part of."

Given the screen writer's comments, however, it's likely we won't get to see much of Lando's pansexuality in Solo: A Star Wars Story. It's likely that the film would focus more on the mission Donald Glover's Lando has to go on with Alden Ehrenreich's Han Solo.

Solo: A Star Wars Story premieres on May 25.
