Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie Episode 9 Recap
The episode begins with Izumi missing school. He has a fever and has decided to skip school for several days to recover.
Instead of asking Shikimori, he texted Inuzuka and asked him to take notes for him. Shikimori sulks, as a result, feeling envious of Inuzuka.
This prompted Inuzuka to inquire about Shikimori's feelings towards Nekozaki and Hachimitsu. He believes she despises him because of her recent actions toward him.
Inuzuka also mentions Shikimori, seeing him as a rival in Izumi's eyes. However, Hachi and Neko informed him that this was not the case.
Shikimori asked Izumi to accompany her to Izumi's house after class. Despite his anxiety, Inuzuka agrees. Meanwhile, Neko instructs Hachi to follow Shikimori and Inuzuka around because it will only be the two of them.
Shikimori and Inuzuka decide to go to a nearby shop to get some comfort food for Izumi. Shikimori inquires Inuzuka about Izumi's preferences while shopping because she is having difficulty deciding.
Much to Inuzuka's surprise, Shikimori addresses him as "Onii-san," or brother, during the process.
Shikimori realizes her mistake and attempts to remain silent. Shikimori, surprisingly, gave Inuzuka the grape-flavored snack as a thank you for his help with Izumi. He gladly accepts and realizes that Shikimori does not hate him after all.
Hachimitsu, who appears unexpectedly and explains Shikimori's behavior, explains it to Inuzuka. Shikimori is acting this way toward Inuzuka because he resembles Shikimori's older brother, she explains. Shikimori notices it as well and teases Shikimori, much to Shikimori's embarrassment.
The second half of the episode focuses on Shikimori, Nekozaki, and Kamiya's friendship. Nekozaki decides to invite Kamiya out for a fun day, and the latter agrees. They went to the mall and became friends while playing arcade games.
Nekozaki recalls inviting Kamiya out only to be turned down. She also reminisces about the things people said about Kamiya. Some of her classmates think Kamiya is a snob who prefers to be alone rather than spends time with her classmates.
Nekozaki believes that something has changed with Kamiya as a result of this. Her smile was more genuine now, and she appeared more approachable and kinder.
Meanwhile, Shikimori and Kamiya form a friendly relationship over a claw machine and win some prizes. They also played basketball with some gals in the streets.
Kamiya realizes she was having as much fun as Shikimori. After all, it was the first time something like this had happened to her. Finally, Kamiya asks Shikimori to be her friend and hang out with her again some other time, which the latter gladly accepts.
On the way home, Nekozaki and Kamiya discuss a variety of topics. Kamiya also allowed Nekozaki to question her, which she politely answered.
Nekozaki, on the other hand, inquires about the one person who influenced Kamiya. Despite her desire to answer her question, Kamiya believes that telling her about Izumi will only complicate matters.
