Shazam!’s Zachary Levi Reflects on His Failed Star-Lord Audition

Zachary Levi is set to play the World's Mightiest Mortal in Shazam! this coming April, but did you know that he was almost Peter Quill for Guardians of the Galaxy?

Talking to ScreenRant, Levi reflects on passing on the role of Shazam then wanting it again after he failed his audition for Guardians of the Galaxy's Star-Lord. Levi explained:

"It was oddly or ironically reminiscent of when I was camera testing for Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy. I knew that Chris Pratt had also passed on that role, and I wanted it so bad. There was definitely a strange thing of, 'Wow, when you are not holding onto something so tightly..."

Ironically, Levi already played a Marvel character, Fandral from the Warriors Three in Thor: The Dark World. The character was eventually killed off in Thor: Ragnarok, but I bet no one would have noticed it was Levi at all. Heck, Levi was the second actor to play the role; in the first movie, it was Joshua Dallas who played Fandral in the first Thor, but he had to drop out of the sequel to play Prince Charming on Once Upon a Time.

When it comes to Levi landing Shazam!, director David F. Sandberg had said that Levi was one of the few actors who could really "get" the role. While other actors merely played stupid when they were auditioning, Levi, on the other hand, was able to pull off a believable "child in an adult's body."

After the success of Aquaman, DC fans can't wait to see what's in store for Shazam!.

Catch the movie in theaters on April 5.
