Shazam! Director Talks the 7 Deadly Sins and How They’re Different from the Comics

Though Shazam! has marketed Dr. Sivana (Mark Strong) as the main villain of the film, the movie will also include the 7 Deadly Sins as actual creatures for Shazam to fight. David F. Sandberg talks about bringing the Sins to the big screen, and says that he wants to change the approach from Geoff Johns' versions of the characters.

Talking to ScreenRant, Sandberg explains:

" The core of it didn't change so much. There's some things about like the Sins and stuff like how they worked…

"… just having fun with sort of how the Sins worked and everything, because I wanted to do something a little different from... like in the Geoff Johns versions you have... they look very different, because you have one that looks like a person, one that looks like a monster, and I wanted to go more sort of monster route and also do cool stuff with the mechanics... and how challenging that is to fight and stuff like that."

You can actually catch a glimpse of the Sins in the latest teaser, where a young Sivana walks into the chamber of the Wizard Shazam. We don't really know how they manage to come to life in the movie, but it's said that a big part of Sivana's mission is to gain the powers of Shazam. Perhaps the Wizard didn't think he was worthy of his powers?

Aquaman was such a huge hit for DC, and it's managed to restore faith in the franchise moving forward. Let's just hope that this doesn't become yet another stumble. After films like Suicide Squad and Justice League, you'd think that WB has finally learned their lesson when it comes to studio meddling.

Catch Shazam! in theaters April 5.
