Shazam!'s Billy Batson Doesn't Want to be Batman or Superman

The hype for Aquaman I slowly starting to die down, and everyone is now looking forward to the next entry in the DCEU, Shazam!. Zachary Levi is playing the face of DC's latest hero, and he talks a bit about how his character is going to approach heroism in the movie.

Talking to ScreenRant, Levi shares that his character doesn't really look up to any of the heroes in the universe. He shares:

"Oddly enough, Billy isn't a big superhero aficionado. Billy's been so obsessed with trying to find his parents, trying to find his family. And he's lived on the streets quite a few times in between all that. To him, that stuff is going on, but he's not caring so much about that."

Billy's disinterest in superheroes is also evident in the trailers, seeing that he isn't really enthused when Freddy talks about them or shows off his collection. We don't really know what's going to motivate Billy into becoming a hero on his own, but my guess is it's going to be a "With great power comes great responsibility" type of deal.

I have to say, I'm just happy to see the DCEU back. After the drought that followed with Justice League, I was really missing something that didn't come from the MCU. Understandably, DC is lowering the risk by not giving Shazam! a bigger budget, but I have a feeling this movie is going to end up good anyway. The trailers have been fantastic, and Levi definitely brings the humor and spirit of a boy trapped in Superman's body.

Catch Shazam! in theaters April 5.
