Back in April, we were treated to a first look at Piper, Pixar’s latest hero who will be featured in a beach-based short when Finding Dory hits theaters this summer.

Back then it was only a still of Piper that we see. Now, we’re getting more action from the adorable winged hero in a new clip via Disney UK.

Veteran Pixar animator and Piper director Alan Barillarosaid in April that he was inspired to create Piper after he saw a hungry baby sandpiper trying to eat less than a mile away from Pixar’s Emeryville, California studio. He added that the sandpiper was trying to overcome its fear of the water. He said:

Seeing the way these sandpipers react to waves and run, I always felt, ‘Gosh, that’s a film, that’s a character.
It’s always fun to show a world we’re familiar with but from a different perspective. We’ve all been to the beach, but have we ever viewed water from just an inch off the sand? That could be very fearful from a bird’s perspective.

One bit of inspiration can sure go a long way, and we see that in the preview of Piper.

The six-minute short will be featured before Finding Dory is shown on the big screen.
