Sebastian Stan Replacing Chris Evans In Major Role But Not As MCU's Captain America

Fans have certainly been hoping that Bucky Barnes will eventually become Captain America after Steve Rogers retires from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Interestingly, Sebastian Stan is replacing Chris Evans in a coveted role in a highly anticipated flick. However, it's not yet happening in the MCU.

According to Deadline, Stan is taking over for Evans after the Gifted actor decided to leave the upcoming adaptation of The Devil All The Time. Evans was originally cast as Lee Bodecker in the film but has opted to walk away due to scheduling conflicts.

Although Stan and Evans will not be working together on The Devil All The Time, Stan will be reunited with one of their Avengers: Infinity War co-stars. Spider-Man: Far From Home actor Tom Holland has been confirmed to lead the film alongside former Harry Potter star Robert Pattinson and It: Chapter Two's Bill Skarsgard. Mia Wasikowska of Alice Through The Looking Glass and Suspiria actress Mia Goth have also been cast in the adaptation of Donald Ray Pollock's novel.

But what are the chances that Stan's Bucky Barnes will eventually become Captain America as well? It's certainly not looking good for the former Winter Soldier. After all, Bucky was one of the victims of Thanos' snap in Infinity War. Nevertheless, it's still possible that Steve's best friend will be brought back and could finally take on the Captain America mantle in Avengers: Endgame.

It's still unclear if Stan will reprise his role as Bucky in Endgame. However, Evans is expected to turn in his final performance as Captain America in the fourth Avengers film on April 26.
