Sebastian Stan Remembers The Time He Wasn’t Recognized By His Marvel Co-Stars

Sebastian Stan transformed so much for his role in I, Tonya, not a single friend of his from the set of Avenger: Infinity War movie in Atlanta recognized him when he tried to hang out with them in a bar.

Of course, it's pretty hard to recognize Stan in his I, Tonya look. The Marvel star plays the ex-husband of Tonya Harding, Jeff Gillooly, and to play the role he has to have a mustache and a couple of sideburns. Sitting down with Esquire, Stan recalls a moment where not one of his Marvel friends recognized him when he was in his Jeff Gillooly look.

"I went and stood in the center of where everyone was hanging out and I realized that no one recognized me. I had this haircut that was really high, a mustache and no sideburns, and I was very pale. I stood there for a minute before I went up to someone and was like, 'Hey, it's me.'"

Still, it's pretty cool that Stan's deep dive into his character works so well that his friends no longer recognize him for himself. It's a huge compliment to any actor and Stan did a lot of work trying to learn more about Gillooly, the man estranged husband and figure skating villain who helped destroy the career of one of the world's greatest figure skaters.

I, Tonya is now screening in cinemas. Stan is also set to reprise his role as Bucky Barnes in Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, 2018, as well as in Avengers 4 on May 3, 2019.
