Ryan Reynolds Wrote Deadpool While Filming Green Lantern

Ryan Reynolds just revealed that he was writing Deadpool even as he played the Green Lantern, THRreports. It's a pretty big deal that he was working on a Marvel project even while acting in DC Movie, considering the companies are competitors. He also talked a little bit about his mindset when he was cast in the Green Lantern.

He didn't expect to be offered the part of Hal Jordan for Green Lantern after he auditioned, but he got it. He called Fox regarding Deadpool before taking the part. "I quickly called the executive I knew at Fox who had Deadpool and I said, 'Look, I am standing at the altar right now, and I'm about to say "I do" to someone else. I will walk away from this if you even think that you can make a Deadpool movie with me.' And he said, 'Unfortunately, no, I don't think that that's gonna happen."

But a Deadpool movie did happen and it started happening while Green Lantern was filming. "The weird plot twist was, somehow, some way, Deadpool got reinvigorated at Fox while it was happening. ... What a lot of people don't know is [writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick] flew to New Orleans and, while I was shooting Green Lantern, we were actually all together writing Deadpool."

He laughed and admitted,"We were breaking the story of the original Deadpool movie in a house that was being paid for by Green Lantern's dime." He was worried that Green Lantern meant he wouldn't be able to play Deadpool. "I thought, 'If Green Lantern is a huge hit, they're never gonna accept me as both, and if Green Lantern is a huge failure — which it ended up being — they're never going to hire me."

But they did hire him and the rest is history.

Reynolds double-dealing with Green Lantern and Deadpool is an amusing twist of fate, but it was probably a good decision for him to "cheat" on DC with Marvel like this because Green Lantern was a notorious flop. Reynolds says it was a "learning experience". At least he found success with Deadpool!
