Ryan Reynolds On The Petition To Make A PG-13 Cut of Deadpool

There was a surprise screening for Deadpool at the NYC Deadpool fan event, and Comicbook reported that fans loved it, but the R-Rated film won't be accessible to the younger audience and China.

Deadpool's violence, language, and nudity, and they're essential throughout the entire film. That's why they couldn't get a cleaner cut for China, which officially just banned the film. There's a petition to make a PG-13 cut of the film, but with all the Rated-R sequences filling up most of the film, it would be nearly impossible to make it PG-13. Fox would have to spend millions of dollars to recreate entire scenes in visual effects, and dubbing over dialogues.

Ryan Reynolds, who was involved in the writing and production of the film, agrees. When asked if 20th Century Fox would consider a PG-13 cut of the film, he said:

"I don't think so. I mean, you saw it. That would be a very short movie. It's almost a commercial at that point."

But he didn't want fans to get angry with the mom who started the petition. "People are ragging on her – I think that's an awesome mom," Reynolds said. "When I was 8 years old, I wanted to see 9 ½ Weeks, but my mom didn't make a petition!"

It's very unlikely that they'll make a PG-13 cut of Deadpool. A PG-13 cut would just ruin the source material's spirit.
