Rumor: Disney Meeting with James Gunn to Re-Hire Him for GOTG Vol. 3

SDCC last weekend ended up bittersweet after the news came out that James Gunn was fired from directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. This lead to a backlash and a petition to get him back on the helm which amassed over 300,000 signatures. Now rumor has it that Disney is looking to sit down with Gunn and re-hire him.

This comes from That Hashtag Show writer Skyler Shuler:

Of course, nothing official has been confirmed for now, so we should all just take this with a grain of salt.

After Gunn was fired, a lot of people looked in on the situation and saw this as a result of a smear campaign by Mike Cernovich. It was thought that Gunn had become a target since he was one of the more vocal critics of the current political climate.

Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon was said to have also been attacked with the same strategy, but Adult Swim decided to keep him onboard. After all, there's a fine line between joking and actually committing heinous acts—it's very tricky when it comes to comedians.

A lot of Gunn's collaborators have shown their support for him online, and even the main cast of Guardians of the Galaxy have come out with their open letter urging Disney to re-hire Gunn. After all, Gunn had apologized for his offensive tweets way before Disney even hired him. Besides, Disney should take a lesson from their own movies all about redemption and changing for the better.

Let's hope all of this ends well.
