Rogue One’s Mads Mikkelsen Open to Star Wars Empire-centric Projects

Much of Star Wars have always sided with the good and viewed those on the Dark Side as the bad guys. And while most people growing up wanted to become Luke, Han, Leia, or even Yoda—with some exceptions who want to be the badass Darth Vader—most of the people in the Empire are viewed as being on the other side.

If given a chance, Mads Mikkelsen is open to reprise his role as Galen in Rebels, should the opportunity come. Speaking to IGN, Mikkelsen revealed that he thinks that it's interesting to explore the backstory of those from the Empire, as in the case of the Star Wars book Catalyst.

"You know, the Star Wars films have always been about dealing with the Rebellion, the people that are fighting the Empire. But it's actually very interesting to go and see the people who actually are in the Empire, and I'm one of them. And surprisingly enough, the people of the Empire have families, and wives and daughters that they love. You know, they are the other guys we don't know so much about. And I think it would be interesting to you know, to make a film about the people of the Empire."

Mikkelsen believes that exploring the questions of who these people are and why they are evil are good focal points to start with.

I do agree on the idea of exploring the other side. Media and works of art nowadays are no longer just interested in showing a hero. Deadpool is a perfect example—being an anti-establishment anti-hero movie, his story proved that no matter how much of a jerk and a-hole he could be, there's still a story worth talking about.

Given Rogue One's success as a non-Jedi-centric movie, I can't see why an Empire-focused movie won't find the same success or favor among fans.
