Ridley Scott Has An Idea For A Blade Runner 2049 Sequel

2017 saw the release of sequels to two Ridley Scott franchises—Alien and Blade Runner, and though the latter was critically acclaimed, it had somehow bombed in the box office. Despite this Scott is still optimistic about the future of Blade Runner and says that he already has ideas on where it should go.

Talking to Digital Spy, Scott explained:

"I hope so, I think there is another story. I've got another one ready to evolve and be developed, so there is certainly one to be done for sure."

As for the reason 2049 bombed, Scott thinks it was mostly due to the movie's almost 3-hour runtime. Besides the slow pacing, he says he would have cut out almost half-an-hour of the film. It's funny counting that the original Blade Runner was also notoriously slow and long, and the fact that the sequel managed to keep the tone makes it a truly faithful follow-up.

Despite bombing in the box-office, I think that 2049 will eventually find its cult status with a home release. The original Blade Runner didn't fare so well when it came out, but now it's revered as one of the best sci-fi films out there. Hopefully this third Blade Runner manages to get some traction.

I just have my fingers crossed that director Denis Villenueve comes back.
