Resident Evil Will Get a Movie Reboot

To say that all videogame-based movies are unsuccessful may be a misleading generalization. After all, if success is to be measured by the ticket sales raked in, then the Resident Evil movie franchise trumps that theory.

And to celebrate that fact, Constantin Film has already confirmed that a reboot is in the works. Speaking to Variety, Constantin Film's chairman of the board Martin Moszkowicz did confirm this, stating that a reboot is already in development.

It seems the expected end of the movie franchise for this year following Resident Evil: The Final Chapter isn't really happening, per se. Though it's not really a surprise, given how the movie alone had earned $312 million worldwide.

The Resident Evil series already has six installments, the majority of which had been directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. Overall, the franchise has reportedly earned more than $1.23 billion. As of writing, the details for the reboot's storyline, casting, and director have not yet been revealed. But the timeline of the reboot seems to already be underway--again under unsurprising fact, given that it has only been six months since the supposed Final Chapter was released.

Resident Evil: Final Chapter stars Milla Jovovich. Anderson has yet to confirm he will direct or be involved in the reboot, since he is still involved with Monster Hunter, expected sometime this year or early next year.
