Red Dead Redemption 2 Analyst Predictions Cite GTA V Comparisons

Red Dead Redemption 2 has been a sequel that's always been at the back of fans' minds. This is why it's no surprise that the Internet all but exploded with memes and expressions of joy following Rockstar's official announcement.

But as a title from Rockstar Games, Red Dead Redemption 2 is far from its major selling point. Currently, the title is with GTA V—and that's quite the feat, especially when you remember that Grand Theft Auto V was released over three years ago.

Gamingbolt has asked Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter about his take on Red Dead Redemption 2. Comparing it to GTA V, Pachter appears to be divided in his own approach.

He did state that expecting it to be as big as GTA V may be quite the stretch. But he was also quick to cite that he has been consistently wrong as far as the Grand Theft Auto series is concerned.

"It's entirely possible that Red Dead Redemption 2 is like the movie Titanic, you know, just one of those things you don't expect to be phenomenal, but then end up being a phenomenon."

Perhaps for a closer comparison, Pachter cited that it may be more comparable to a game like Fallout. One possible reason for this is that GTA is pretty much an all-out badass game where you can be bad to the bones and be unapologetic about it. This is limited in Red Dead Redemption 2, which makes Pachter peg its sales somewhere around 15 to 20 million. In fact, 40 million, according to him, will surprise the analyst.

"I will say that you can't dismiss the talent at Rockstar. Their games are so interesting, so well-crafted, so fun to play, and so beautiful, that of course, there's going to be a huge audience for this."

Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming sometime during the fall of 2017. A trailer is expected this week.
