The Pokemon Company recently announced a partnership with the Yomiuriland theme park. This partnership will be centered around PokéPark Kanto, a Pokemon theme park that is set to open in Tokyo.

Details about this upcoming park were shared on The Pokemon Company’s website. There, the park’s official logo was unveiled, and its location has also been revealed.

This move for Pokemon makes sense. After all, lots of Japanese media franchises have begun opening their own parks over the past couple of years.

Theme parks have always been popular, but most parks are based on American intellectual properties. Over the past years though, Japan has begun upping its theme park game with two big openings.

To start, there’s Super Nintendo World, which opened in Universal Studios Japan back in 2021. Earlier this year, a similar themed area was also opened in Universal Studios Hollywood.

Then there’s Ghibli Park in Aichi, which opened last year. Until now, tickets for this park have sold out fast, indicating the incredibly high demand for it.

Soon, Pokemon will be the next media franchise to get a park of its own. This is no surprise given how hugely popular the franchise continues to be.

Instead of being a standalone park like Ghibli, the PokéPark will be similar to Super Nintendo World as it will be part of a much larger theme park complex.

PokéPark Kanto: What to Expect at the Upcoming Theme Park

PokéPark Kanto was announced earlier today, and it will be built in Yomiuriland, a theme park that’s located around 30 minutes away from central Tokyo by train.

The park’s name is a reference to the Kanto region, the region that served as the setting for the original Pokemon Red and Blue games. Kanto is also the name of the Japanese region where Tokyo is located.

According to The Pokemon Company, this park will be “rich in nature” and will offer an experience that will transcend “national, regional, and language barriers.”

Aside from these vague descriptions, it’s not clear yet what can be expected at the Pokemon theme park.

What is safe to say is that this park will surely get a lot of attention when it opens, based on the popularity of the Studio Ghibli and Nintendo parks.

For now, there’s no word yet on a target opening date for the park. Chances are that we’ll get more details about what to expect and a target date in the coming months.
