Pokemon Go Datamined Possible Clues to Holiday Update

When the very successful Halloween and Thanksgiving events produced a spike in Pokemon Go's player activity, it wasn't hard to assume that there will be a Christmas event for this holiday season.

But with just two days left before Christmas dawns and other games already well into their respective Christmas events, fans who are still playing the game may wonder if Santa Pikachu is all we're getting as a present from Niantic Labs.

However, The Silph Road users have managed to datamine some information that may hint at a holiday event. Specifically, there are three areas that led to a lot of speculation, and these are the presence of Gift Boxes and a Shop Button variant.

The fans over at The Silph Road community tried to give us a rough speculation of what this all means. Basically, the Gift Boxes are seen to have to have Bronze, Silver, and Gold variants, as well as Special, Great, and Ultra variants.

There are also some codes seen for Holiday Shop items, which makes further sense given that a new Shop button variant was also spotted. This variant is speculated to replace the current Shop button once Holiday items are already in the store.

It would be interesting to see what exactly these new additions are. My only worry is that the items will require Coins to buy. This currency is already hard to come by as it is—at least for casual players—so not being able to take part in this kind of event will alienate a lot of players. Especially those who are coming back from a long hiatus of not playing.

One way to make this interesting for all fans is to have a Christmas currency that can be collected during the event. That way, we won't have to spend our hard-earned Coins to get seasonal items, and those who may have stopped playing can still enjoy a holiday event without being forced to catch up just to participate.

Hopefully Niantic Labs will already release the holiday event, if it does plan to have one. Unless it's meant to be a Christmas and New Year combined event, it's about time they get Pokemon Go players out and about for the holiday season once more.
