One Piece Will Have a Spin-off for Ace

The 20th year anniversary of One Piece will be special, particularly for Ace fans. Shonen Jump has confirmed that in saying goodbye to the year of Sanji, the Japanese magazine may be saying hello to Ace's year instead.

According to Crunchyroll, the 20th anniversary of the manga will also coincide with the surprise Ace-focused spin-off for One Piece. This is a different surprise from the return of One Piece Kabuki, giving fans more of the franchise to enjoy. This also signals a break for the One Piece run on Jump until issue 9.

As far as the One Piece Ace-focused spin-off is concerned, there are no details available yet.

For those who need a refresher, Ace's real name is Portgas D. Ace, the older brother to hero Luffy. He stands as the parent and role model to Luffy and also the second division commander for the Whitebeard Pirates.

Perhaps the more interesting question is how exactly Ace will go back to the franchise. The last he was seen, he was almost executed if not for Luffy's interference. However, he still ended up dying to save Luffy's life.

This could mean that the Ace-focused manga may delve deeper into Ace's past. He has always been a mysterious character to some despite being one of the more hotheaded characters in anime and manga fandom, so it would be nice to see how he got to become the way he is.
