New Avengers: Endgame ‘For Your Consideration’ Posters Surface Online

With the announcement for next year's Academy Awards nominees just right around the corner, new posters lobbying nominations for the Avengers: Endgame have recently surfaced online. The much-awaited finale to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Infinity Saga hit screens last April and broke records in the box office, which led Disney and Marvel Studios to position it as its contender for next year's Oscars.

The series of posters showcase multiple stills from the film with some of its best and stellar reviews superimposed across the photos. Some also include the categories of which it is hoping to be nominated in, these are Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, and of course, Best Director and Best Picture.

If you may recall, Disney initially caused an uproar among fans upon its initial announcement of its ‘For Your Consideration' lineup after having evidently left out Robert Downey, Jr. for his portrayal of Tony Stark/Iron Man. Downey addressed this issue during an interview with Howard Stern and clarified that it was his choice to not put his name on the ticket.

"There was some talk about (putting my name forth for an acting Oscar), and I said, ‘let's not,'" Downey shared. "Doing the MCU films was their own reward." He also recognized renowned director Martin Scorsese's criticisms of Marvel films during the same interview and simply stated that these were the director's own opinions and that just like anything, it provides a different perspective to things.

It's also worth mentioning that this campaign isn't Marvel's first time. Earlier this year, Black Panther was nominated for six Academy Awards and had managed to take home three. These were for Best Original Music Score, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design.

Despite this, however, film critics still subject superhero films under close scrutiny and often dismiss the idea of them being nominated during prestigious awarding ceremonies. Hopefully, with Black Panther having paved the way, the Academy may start thinking otherwise.

Whether or not Avengers: Endgame will be just as lucky as Black Panther—or even luckier and finally bag that Best Picture and Best Director Award—remains to be seen. The Academy is scheduled to announce a shortlist of ten films on December 16 and a full roster of nominees on January 13, 2020. The Oscars itself, on the other hand, will be held on February 9.
