Last weekend, Star Wars Rebels aired its newest episode titled Warhead, and while the newest segment in the explosive Star Wars animated series was busy dealing with a dangerous terminator-like infiltrator droid, LucasFilm released a new Rebels Recon clip to go with the episode. In the clip we finally get to learn about one of the most highly anticipated weapons in the series – the darksaber.
Fans have had a lot of questions about the black saber ever since Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and the discussion about the mysterious weapon rekindled when the Rebels mid-season trailer revealed Sabine Wren wielding the weapon to bring Mandalorian fighters to the Rebel's cause. Now, in Rebels Recon we get to see the new sneak peek for the series next episode, Trials of the Darksaber. The clip takes us deep into Mandalorian lore, one of which includes the darksaber.
"We didn't, this was one of a kind," Rau responds to Kanan's remark about Mandalorians making lightsabers. "Legend tells that it was created over a thousand years ago by Ta Vizsla, the first Mandalorian ever inducted into the Jedi order. After his passing, the Jedi kept the saber in their temple. That was, until members of House Vizsla snuck in and liberated it. They used the saber to unify the people and strike down those who would oppose them. At one time, they ruled all of Mandalore, wielding this blade."

It's a lot of news for Trials of the Darksaber and while fans finally learn that the black blade isn't a saber but an entirely different weapon from Mandalor, there's still a lot of things that we still have to discover in the new Star Wars Rebels episode.
