Matthew Vaughn Asked Mark Millar To Help Him With Man Of Steel 2; Millar Had To Decline

Mark Millar and Matthew Vaughn are two creatives that come up with gold every time they collaborate, with Vaughn successfully adapting two of Millar's comics into movies, Kick-Ass and Kingsman. Warner Bros has been having talks with Vaughn about directing the sequel to Man of Steel, and he's asked Millar to come and work with him on the movie. Sadly, Millar had to say no.

Talking to El Fanboy, Millar explains:

"He and I are massive Superman fans. I mean, we worship Richard Donner. We love the Christopher Reeve movies. He actually phoned me up a few months ago, and he said, ‘Hey, listen, DC, they're very interested in me doing Man of Steel 2. Do you want to come in and do this?' And I was like, ‘I'm exclusive to Netflix for years. We can't even have that conversation.' And he was like, ‘Oh, man. What's the chances of this?' And then he kind of drifted away. And he's attached himself to a couple of things and all that. Y'know so, it's one of those things that might, I mean—if somebody phones Matthew up and offers him enough money it could all change tomorrow."

Probably one of Millar's most memorable Superman stories is Red Son Superman, in which an alternate universe has little Kal-El landing in Russia instead of America. The comic then follows Superman's journey to become head of the Kaiser and dominating most of planet Earth. It's also worth mentioning that we get Red Son versions of Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern—all wonderfully dark and interesting.

For now, we still have no idea when Warner Bros plans on developing Man of Steel 2, but a lot of people are already onboard to have Matthew Vaughn direct the film. After the mishap that was Justice League, there's no way for the DCEU to go but up.

No release date has been announced for Man of Steel 2.
