Matt Smith May Star in Harry Potter Spin-Off Film 'Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them'

If you're a Potterhead and a Whovian, you'd probably love to see a Doctor Who star play a part in the upcoming Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. We've seen David Tennant play Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire before, so why not bring another Doctor to the Wizarding World?

According to the U.K. paper The Sun, Matt Smith, best known for playing the Eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who, has been "tipped for the role" of Newt Scamander, the "magizooligist" and author of a textbook in J.K. Rowling's fantasy world. I think he's versatile enough to play an eccentric role like Scamander.

So far, we know that the spin-off will be directed by Harry Potter alum David Yates, and will consist of at least three movies, with the possibility of having more. J.K. Rowling is also penning the script for the spin-off. The first film will be set seventy years prior to the events of the Harry Potter franchise, and it's "neither a direct sequel or prequel" to the popular saga. Warner Bros. hasn't confirmed Matt Smith's involvement in the film so take this as a grain of salt. The first film will be released on November 18, 2016. Would you like to see Matt Smith play the lead role in Fantastic Beasts?
