Matt Reeves’ The Batman has Entered Pre-Production

The DCEU had been trying to get back on its feet after Justice League, and after the success of Aquaman and Shazam!, production is ready to start for Matt Reeves' The Batman. Just in, we have solid confirmation that the film has already started pre-production.

This comes from a listing on IMDb Pro (via Thomas Polito):

For now, we know that Robert Pattinson is playing the new Dark Knight, with plans to introduce multiple villains like Penguin, Two-Face, Riddler, Firefly, and The Mad Hatter. There's also buzz going around that Catwoman will be in the film as well, and we could get an announcement on who is playing her soon.

What I want to find out is which members of the Bat-family we can expect to see in the film. With Pattinson still a bit on the young side, I can expect that they wouldn't give him a Robin or Batgirl to work with first. What I do want is confirmation that the movie will bring back Jeremy Irons to reprise his role of Alfred.

Then again, there are rumblings going around that this film doesn't take place in the main DCEU—just like the upcoming Joker movie. We'll just have to wait for an official announcement, but I think this could open any possibilities for Ben Affleck to reprise his role of Batman in the bigger DCEU continuity.

Though WB won't have a DC panel at SDCC 2019, I'm still hoping for some huge reveals—maybe a trailer for Birds of Prey or a new preview for Joker.

The Batman is set for a release on June 25, 2021. The next DC film to hit theaters is Joker, and it comes out Oct. 5.
