Matt Reeves Could Be Finished With 'The Batman' Re-Writes This Year

As Warner Bros. has switched focus to Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman: 1984, and next year's Shazam!, fans have been curious about Matt Reeves' The Batman, which was supposed to star Ben Affleck but his status has been up in the air recently. Despite the rise in popularity for DC's female heroes, Batman is still the face of the company and everyone is curious about the next time we'll see him on the big screen.

It might take a while till we actually see it but Reeves could begin production on the film in 2019, as a source is claiming that he could be done with script rewrites this year. According to The Wrap's Humberto Gonzalez, the script rewrite is due at the end of the year and if all things go well, the film could start filming in 2019. Whether it stars Affleck or not is a mystery.

Reeves has stated that his take on Batman would be more noir-focused, which would be a nice change of pace when compared to previous incarnations. The Dark Knight trilogy was the most "realistic" take on the character, though things did get a bit odd by the end. Zack Snyder had the character tangle with a Kryptonian and a God, so maybe some street mooks and drug dealers would be a nice change.

No one knows if The Batman will be coming out soon but at least some of the work is almost done. Here is hoping that we eventually see more of it. In the meantime, Aquaman comes out next week, on December 20.
