Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is Not Marvel's Spider-Man 2 According to Sony

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales was one of the best announcements made during yesterday's PS5 presentation, with a lot of us shocked to see that the game would be coming out later this year. Many of us assumed that this would be an official sequel to 2017's Marvel's Spider-Man but Sony Interactive Entertainment EVP head of European business Simon Rutter said that might not be the case.

During an interview with The Telegraph, Rutter said that this was more of a refinement and expansion of the original game, with Miles Morales himself clearly being one of the major differences. This could mean that the post-credits sequence that teased Venom and Green Goblin might not be addressed yet, though we will be seeing "major enhancements to the game."

"I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game. There's a substantial Miles Morales component – which is the expansion element – but also within the game as well there's been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features."

From what we've seen in the trailer, Miles does possess different abilities from Peter Parker, showing how faithful they are to his comic book roots. We see glimpses of his invisible powers, along with his Venom Shocks. It should make stealth missions more interesting, if anything else, and those new bad guys look like they'll be bringing something new to the table.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is expected to come out on the PS5 this holiday season.
