Marvel's Spider-Man Might Be the Start of a Marvel Gaming Universe

After tons of rave reviews, it's clear that Marvel's Spider-Man is a bonafide classic and one of this year's most fun open-world video games. Developed by Insomniac Games, the creators of Ratchet and Clank, this PS4 exclusive has proven itself to be a quality title that deserves to be played. What players might not know is that it also has a good story that could start as the foundation for future Marvel games.

Insomniac's Bill Rosemann has now hinted at this being a reality, claiming that Marvel's Spider-Man is to Marvel games what Iron Man was to the MCU. This doesn't mean that Insomniac will be developing all of these Marvel games (we can dream can't we?), but as a foundation for future games, this is a very good start.

Easter eggs for other characters pop up a lot in Marvel's Spider-Man, commonly known as Spider-Man PS4 to fans, with Avengers Tower actually being one of the game's landmarks. We've also seen areas associated with Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones, so the fact that these four didn't appear at all in the game was fairly surprising.

Of course, the real struggle would be trying to find unique gameplay mechanics for the other Marvel characters. Someone like Iron Fist and Daredevil could easily have the Arkham battle system, but a combat system to match the power of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage could be difficult.

Square Enix is working on The Avengers Project, though we still don't know what kind of game it will be. There is some speculation that this will be a rebranded Marvel Ultimate Alliance, but that has not been confirmed as of this writing. Now that the Fantastic Four and X-Men have returned to Marvel, we can only hope that they get games as well.
